  • Laparoscopic sterilization

  • Continuous monitoring
  • The most advanced and safest anesthesia protocols available

Our hospital and staff are well equipped to perform surgical procedures ranging from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Dr. Hebert has a special interest in companion animal surgery and routinely performs challenging orthopedic procedures, including ACL repair of the knee and external fixation of fractures.

Our surgical suite is equipped with the most advanced technology for optimum surgical conditions. Immediately accessible is our veterinary intensive care unit, ideal for post-op patients that require critical care or constant supervision.

Surgical patients undergo a pre-anesthetic exam and age-appropriate blood work to assess anesthetic risks associated with surgery. During surgery, the latest in anesthesia drug protocols are used to provide your pet with a safer surgical experience and to minimize post-op pain.

Patients receive continuous monitoring during surgery and recovery. Our protocol includes pulse oximetry, ECG, temperature, blood pressure, and respiration monitoring. Trained staff maintain a close watch until your pet is alert and fully recovered from anesthesia.

Neuter and Spay or Laparoscopic Ovary Removal

At Northpark Animal Hospital, elective surgeries, such as spays and neuters, are handled with the same care as more complex procedures. We recommend your pet be spayed or neutered at around 6 months of age. We also offer minimally-invasive outpatient laparoscopic ovary removal (ovariectomy) as a safer, less painful alternative to traditional spaying.

Spay or neuter surgery has many benefits, such as:

  • Enhancing long-term health—The procedure is safe for your pet and helps prevent certain cancers, uterine infections, prostate problems, and more.
  • Improving behavior—Spaying and neutering reduces or eliminates many problem behaviors such as urine marking, aggression, mounting, and roaming.
  • Preventing pet overpopulation—Since many pets are euthanized for lack of a good home, spaying and neutering helps to reduce this problem.

Our veterinarians will discuss this procedure with you at your initial visit. Feel free to ask any questions or express any concerns you may have regarding this healthy reproductive choice.
