The Loss of a Beloved Pet

“I have every confidence
we’ll see them again in heaven.”

~ Dr. Hebert

Losing a pet is never easy and your friends at Northpark Animal Hospital understand. Pets take a significant place in our lives, becoming a source of companionship and unconditional love. The loss of that relationship is painful. Children may need help to understand. Surviving pets will notice the absence of another pet with which they had bonds and will need extra love and attention during this period of time.

We hope you will find support in the following tools and resources:

  • Light a Candle—Pet owners are encouraged to light a virtual candle in memory of a deceased pet.

  • Online Pet Loss Library—A resource with answers to frequently asked questions about grieving after the death of a pet, and a place to share information and stories.

Grief is so painfully real, regardless of its origin. The love of, and attachment to, an animal friend can equal that of human relationships. Likewise, the loss of an animal can be just as devastating.
